Northern Territory Detectives from the Major Crime Squad are calling for witnesses after a 35 year-old man died following an assault on Mitchell Street this afternoon.

Detective Senior Sergeant Lee Morgan said a 19 year-old female is in custody and assisting Police with inquiries.

“At about 6.40pm near the corner of Peel and Mitchell Street in Darwin city an altercation between the woman and man has resulted in the man collapsing and requiring urgent medial attention.  He was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital but has since died.

“Police ask that anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact the Police Assistance Line on 131 444 or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
