Water Police Section Officers are coordinating a search for a missing 34-year-old man who hasn’t been seen since he left the Buffalo Creek boat ramp on Wednesday.

Senior Sergeant Paul Faustmann said the man set off for Pickertaramoor Beach, on the South of Melville Island, at around 5pm.

“It is believed the man had just purchased the boat and we are unsure of whether any emergency supplies or food and water were on board,” Senior Sergeant Faustmann said.

“Police and officers from the NT Emergency Service have been conducting aerial searches and members of the public have been assisting with the coast search.”

“Current investigations reveal that he last contacted family and friends in the early hours on Thursday and stated that he was in the vicinity of the Vernon Islands.

“We do not have exact details of the boat however urge anyone who may have information which may assist Police to contact Police on 131 444.”
