Man Charged after Making False Report - Katherine

Police

A 29-year-old man will appear in Katherine Magistrates Court this morning after he made a false report to Police.

Detective Senior Sergeant Clint Sims, from the Northern Investigation Section said the man claimed two men robbed him at knife point in Katherine North on Thursday 29 August and stole his backpack and iPad.

“Police executed a search warrant last night at the man’s address and located the backpack and iPad that he had earlier reported stolen.

“Investigations have established the man fabricated his story about being the victim of an armed robbery.”

He was arrested and charged with:

Making a false report to Police

Making a false statutory declaration

Attempting to commit criminal deception.

“All complaints are treated seriously and it is disappointing for Police to dedicate their time and resources such as this to find out the allegations are completely fictitious,” Detective Senior Sergeant Clint Sims said.

Police intend to seek restitution for the costs associated with the investigation.
