Rural Drug Operation Shutdown

Police

Northern Territory Police have arrested a 48-year-old man and a 56-year-old man, both housemates, over the seizure of over 6.3 kilograms of cannabis in Darwin’s rural area yesterday.

Members of the Drug and Organised Crime Squad arrested the two males after their vehicle was apprehended on Whitewood Road.

Police will allege that the males are part of a syndicate supplying commercial quantities of cannabis from licensed premises around Darwin. Also seized from the offenders was $20,000 and the late model SS Commodore that the males were driving.

The men were charged with:

·Supply commercial quantity of cannabis (x 2)

·Possess a commercial quantity of cannabis( x 2)

·Receive Property – commission of offence (x 5)

·Possess a Dangerous drug - cannabis

·Possess thing to administer dangerous drug

Both were refused bail and were remanded to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court on 11 September 2013.

Detective Senior Constable Darren Burns of the Drug and Organised Crime Squad said that Police would seek the forfeiture of the vehicle and will be examining the men’s assets with a view to further forfeiture.

“Some excellent Police work went into this operation. The arrests were the result of an extended investigation and the drugs have a conservative street value of $100,000. Police will continue to target commercial drug operations and vigorously pursue the forfeiture of any assets derived from the sale of illicit drugs.”
