Police are calling on assistance from members of the public following a robbery early this morning in Leanyer.

Detective Sergeant Mark Bland said a 23-year-old man was walking to work along Vanderlin Drive at around 4:30am when he was threatened by a young male with a length of chain.

“The victim ran, however he was chased behind Woolworths at the Hibiscus Shopping Centre,” Detective Sergeant Bland said.

“The offender, who had wrapped his fist in the chain, again threatened the victim and ran off with a sum of cash.

“The offender is described to be a young male of Aboriginal appearance, slim build and at the time he was wearing a blue singlet, shorts and wore a bandana over his head.

“Police urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or anyone who may have seen a male in the area matching this description, to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
