Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service Members responded to reports of a car on fire in the carport of a house in Gillen.

Senior Station Officer John Kleeman said the fire was reported at about 2.15pm yesterday and is believed to have started in the vehicle before quickly spreading into the eves of the house.

“Two fire appliances and six Firefighters took about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control.

“The fire spread along the ceiling space inside the house and has caused significant damage.”

Senior Station Officer Kleeman said Fire Investigators were determining the cause of the blaze.

“The vehicle suffered extensive damage to the engine bay and investigators are concentrating their search for a cause there.”

The house was not occupied at the time of the fire.
