Assistance Sought - Sexual Assault – Darwin City

Police are calling on public assistance to locate a man who sexually assaulted a woman in Darwin City this morning.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Karen Sanderson from the Sex Crimes Squad said the incident occurred at around 1:30am on Manton Street.

“It is alleged the 24-year-old female victim was walking home when she was approached by an unknown male,” Detective A/Senior Sergeant Sanderson said.

“The man is alleged to have run up behind her and pushed her to the ground before sexually assaulting her. He fled the scene when the victim called out for help.

“A passer-by stopped to assist and drove her to the Darwin Police Station.”

The offender is described to be a Caucasian male, approximately 170cm tall, short brown hair, slim build and at the time of the offence he was wearing dark clothing.

Police urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who may have seen this man in the area, to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Police also urge the man who drove the woman to the Police Station to come forward, as it is believed he may be able to assist with the investigation.
