General Purpose Dogs Apprehend Two Overnight - Darwin

Police

General Purpose (GP) Dogs Pax and Allo were involved in the apprehension of two men overnight for separate incidents in Casuarina and Palmerston.

Senior Sergeant Angela Stringer said Dog Operations Unit members attended the Gray area in Palmerston following a domestic violence incident in Edgecumbe Court at around 9pm.

“The offender fled the scene in a vehicle and was later located in Tiwi. The GP Dogs were deployed and the alleged offender, a 20-year-old man, immediately complied with Police direction,” Senior Sergeant Stringer said.

“He was arrested and charged with assault a female - offender a male and assault - threaten with a firearm/weapon.”

Later in the night a patrolling Police Officer witnessed two males assaulting three males on Trower Road near Bradshaw Terrace in Casuarina.

The offenders fled the scene on foot and were pursued by Police. One of males threw rocks through the window of the Police car, before fleeing into a unit complex on Trower Road.

A cordon was established and GP Dog Allo was deployed, locating a 16-year-old male hiding in a garden bed.

These matters are being investigated and charges are pending.

“GP Dogs are an integral part of the Police arsenal and this again highlights their effectiveness. You may be able to run, but you can not hide.”
