Investigations are continuing in relation to the fatal crash which occurred near Mataranka last night.

Senior Sergeant John Worrall of the Major Crash Investigation Section said it appears the driver swerved to avoid a kangaroo, lost control of the vehicle and slid into a tree.

“A 10-year-old girl died as a result of the crash. A 46-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman remain in a serious but stable condition at Royal Darwin Hospital,” Senior Sergeant Worrall said.

The road has since been reopened to traffic.
