Traffic Apprehension leads to Weapons and Drug Seizure - Palmerston

A 21-year-old man has been charged with numerous weapons and drug offences following a traffic apprehension in Palmerston yesterday.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Stephen Pfitzner from the Drug and Organised Crime Squad said, Northern Traffic Operations members were conducting patrols along Chung Wah Terrace at 9:55am, when they witnessed a Holden Commodore, travelling more than 20kms over the signed 60km speed limit.

“The vehicle was pulled over near the intersection of Sibbald Crescent and upon approaching the car, Police witnessed two children aged two and five, unrestrained,” Detective A/Senior Sergeant Pfitzner said.

“Police conducted a search of the vehicle, locating a number of weapons including knives, a bat and nunchucks. A further search revealed a quantity of methamphetamine, drug manufacturing equipment, a rifle and a quantity of ammunition.”

He has been charged with:

Drive a motor vehicle while unlicensed
Exceed speed limit
Child 1-16yo seatbelt not fastened
Possess instructions for manufacture of a dangerous drug
Possess article for use in manufacture
Possess schedule 2 drug – Trafficable
Possess carry use controlled weapon
Possess thing administer dangerous drug.

“This apprehension and seizure was due to some excellent policing by the Northern Traffic Operations members.”

The 21-year-old was bailed to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court on 31 October 2013.
