Child Abuse Task Force Execute Warrant - Summons Man for Drug Offences - Fannie Bay

Police

In a joint investigation with the Department of Children and Families, Detectives from the Child Abuse Task Force today executed a search warrant at a residence in Fannie Bay.

Working on information passed to Police by a local media outlet, Detectives and DCF staff launched a joint investigation into claims of a child at risk.

“Detectives seized 20 grams of cannabis whilst executing the search warrant today, resulting in a 29-year-old man being summonsed to appear for cannabis offences,” said Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Karen Sanderson.

“Under the Care and Protection of Children Act, if a person believes on reasonable grounds that a child has suffered or is likely to suffer harm they must report their information to DCF or to police as soon as possible.

“Keeping children safe is everyone’s responsibility, it is the law, but reports of this nature should always be made to DCF or the Police.

“A baby freshwater crocodile was also seized during the execution of the warrant.  Staff from the Parks and Wildlife Commission attended to collect the crocodile and will now investigate if any offences have taken place under the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act.

If you suspect a child is at risk, call the Department of Children and Families on 1800 700 250 or Police on 131 444.  Always dial triple zero (000) in an emergency.
