Police Dog Leads to Arrest - Darwin

A 23-year-old man will appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court today following the assault of a Police Officer in Darwin City.

Detective Senior Sergeant Annette Cooper said Police were called to an aggravated assault early Friday morning at One Mile Dam Community.

“Upon arrival, Police had glass bottles thrown at them, one of which struck a member to the face, causing significant injuries,” Detective Senior Sergeant Cooper.

“The offender fled and a Police cordon was established.

“Numerous Police attended the scene, including the Dog Operations Unit, who deployed General Purpose (GP) Dogs in the area.

“GP Dog 'Pax' led Police to a nearby drain, where the alleged offender was hiding.”

He was charged with a number of offences including:

Assault Police (x2)
Aggravated assault (x2)
Armed with an offensive weapon at night (x2).

The Police Officer is recovering from his injuries.
