Man Charged for Damaging Vehicles Coolalinga

A 24-year-old man, allegedly responsible for throwing tools at passing cars in Coolalinga, is to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court today.

Detective Senior Sergeant Annette Cooper said the man became intoxicated at a premises along the Stuart Highway on Sunday night and allegedly assaulted a 24-year-old man.

“It is alleged the offender then armed himself with a large wrench and a screw driver and walked out into the Stuart Highway and Virginia Road intersection,” Detective Senior Sergeant Cooper said.

“The wrench was thrown at a passing Ford Falcon, puncturing a front tyre and causing damage to a front panel.

“The man allegedly threw the wrench again, this time at a passing Toyota Hilux, causing significant damage to a front right panel.

“Police allege the man then ran towards an oncoming road train whilst armed with the screw driver.

“Police attended a short time later and arrested the man, still armed with the tools.”

He was arrested and has been charged with:

Serious harm
Endanger occupants of a vehicle (x2)
Armed with an offensive weapon at night.

He was remanded in custody to appear in court today.
