Two men are to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court tomorrow, following a kava seizure in Nhulunbuy.

Senior Sergeant Brendan Muldoon said Police were conducting baggage searches at the Nhulunbuy Airport yesterday when the men were intercepted.

“Officers from the Remote Community Drug Desk searched the luggage of the two men, aged 24 and 48 and located a total of 55kg of kava,” Senior Sergeant Muldoon said.

“If sold in the community, this could have netted the offenders approximately $55,000.

“Police will continue to target these types of offenders and encourage anyone considering this type of offending, to think again.”

Both men have been charged with possess trafficable quantity of kava and have been remanded in custody to appear in court on Thursday 17 October.
