An 18-year-old man is to appear in the Alice Springs Court today in relation to the damage of a vehicle and a structure fire in Mutitijulu last week.

Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Malley from the Southern Investigations Section said it is alleged there was a domestic incident between the 18-year-old and a 19-year-old female in which a female was struck with a large stick.

“It is alleged the man then became enraged and damaged a dentist truck, parked at the local health clinic, causing approximately $8,000 worth of damage,” Detective Senior Sergeant Malley said.

“Police allege the man then attended a residence on a number of occasions on Thursday and Friday, throwing rocks and smashing windows. It is alleged he broke into the home on Friday night and set fire to a mattress in the front room.

“Police and NT Fire and Rescue members attended, however the home had been completely gutted by the blaze.”

The 18-year-old was arrested and charged with arson, aggravated assault, unlawful entry, criminal damage and armed with an offensive weapon.
