A 56-year-old man has been charged with drug offences following a cannabis seizure on a bus in Alice Springs.

Detective Superintendent Brent Warren said Police from Southern Investigations Division searched a bus that arrived in Alice Springs yesterday.

“Drug Detection Dog ‘Yona’ had a positive reaction to a piece of luggage on the bus during the search.

“Police located and seized 1.3kg of cannabis divided into three cryovac bags and $2,500 worth of cash inside the luggage.

“The 56-year-old male owner of the luggage was arrested and charged with possession and supply of a commercial quantity of cannabis.”

He was remanded in custody to appear in Alice Springs Magistrates Court on 11 December 2013.
