Cannabis Arrest - Katherine

Police

A 53-year-old man has been charged with possessing a commercial quantity of cannabis after being stopped by Police at an RBT station south of Mataranka on Sunday.

Detective Superintendent Peter Schiller from the Drug and Organised Crime Division said Police allegedly discovered just under 1.5kg of the drug inside a fridge being transported on the back of the utility.

“This seizure is part of an on-going investigation targeting the drug trafficking in the Northern Territory.

“Police will continue to pursue this kind of offending and warn people who profit from dealing drugs in the NT that they will be caught.”

Detective Superintendent Schiller said Police have seized the late model ute and will be seeking forfeiture of the vehicle under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

The man was remanded in custody and will appear in the Katherine Magistrates Court today.
