Cannabis Seizure - Katherine

Police

Police have seized more than a kilogram of cannabis following a search at a home in Katherine today.

Detectives from the Northern Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk (NSAID), with assistance from members of the Dog Operations Unit, executed a drug search warrant on a house in Katherine South shortly after midday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Clint Sims said Police discovered approximately 1.2 kilograms of cannabis packaged in 46 individual ounce sized bags and $5,000 worth of cash.

“A 44-year-old man is currently in custody and is to be charged with supplying a commercial quantity of cannabis,” Detective Senior Sergeant Sims said.

“The street value of the cannabis is estimated to be $16,000 if sold in Katherine or if it had been sold in remote communities, that amount could have doubled.

“Police are pleased that these drugs have been seized as it prevents a lot of money being taken out of our communities and being put into the pockets of those who prey on the vulnerable.

“We will continue to target offenders dealing in these illicit substances in the interest of keeping people safe in our communities.”
