Police advise that a one-year-old girl has died as a result of drowning in Palmerston this afternoon.

Territory Duty Superintendent Louise Jorgensen said it is believed the child fell into a backyard pool at her house at around 2pm.

“Neighbours rendered medical assistance as Police and St John Ambulance attended the scene. Police assisted with a medical escort, however sadly, she passed away a short time later.”

Police will now prepare a report for the Coroner.
