Operation Juno yields good results - Katherine

Police

A team of Darwin based police officers joined forces with Katherine officers late last week to undertake an intelligence-led strike on anti-social behaviour.

Operation Juno commenced on the 28th November with the arrival of 15 Darwin-based officers in Katherine.

“Operation Juno is a coordinated, intelligence-led, proactive and highly visible police operation,” said Superintendent Matt Hollamby of the Darwin Metropolitan Command.

“Targeting alcohol related public order and family violence issues, persons with outstanding warrants and drink drivers, this operation aims to provide mobile and high impact support to the Katherine community leading into Christmas.”

To date, Operation Juno has yielded impressive results with 12 people arrested on outstanding warrants and 17 people arrested for offences, including the rapid arrest a 37-year-old-man in relation to the murder of Katherine man yesterday.

Police have also apprehended 98 people for protective custody and issued 91 Liquor Infringement Notices, 59 Banning Notices and destroyed 164 litres of alcohol.

“Operation Juno has been well received in Katherine.  Many locals are providing very positive and encouraging comments to the officers.  Ultimately we are there to help the local community during a peak period for public order issues,” said Superintendent Hollamby.

Members of the community are encouraged to report instances of public order offending by calling the Police Assistance Line on 131 444 or by approaching patrolling officers.
