Operation Unite Territory Results

Police

Operation Unite, which saw a Territory wide Police crackdown on alcohol-fuelled violence, saw the arrest of 29 people and thousands more breath tested.

Superintendent Scott Pollock said Police were reasonably pleased with the behaviour of Territorians throughout the operation, with no major incidents reported.

“Two hundred and fifty two Northern Territory Police Officers were deployed across the four major regions of Darwin, Katherine, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs over the 48 hour high visibility operation,” Superintendent Pollock said.

“The blitz resulted in the arrest of 29 people, 21 of those for alcohol related offences. Police took 210 people into protective custody, issued 84 Infringement Notices and tipped out a total of 201 litres of alcohol.

“One man, a 41-year-old, was arrested for assault following an incident in Palmerston on Saturday night.

“Police conducted 2,036 breath tests, locating 16 drink drivers. Of those, one was high range and five were medium range.

Across Australia and New Zealand, 7,955 Police Officers were involved in the operation, which saw 2,634 total arrests across both nations.

Members received reports of 266 assaults and identified 810 drink drivers.

“NT Police noticed an increase in the use of taxi services throughout the entertainment areas and commend members of the public for arranging transport.

“Although the operation has ended, Police will continue to take a zero tolerance approach to alcohol-fuelled violence and drink driving in the lead up to Christmas and New Years.”
