A 19-year-old man is currently in Police custody assisting with enquiries following a structure fire in The Narrows this afternoon.

Senior Station Officer Scott Perry from NT Fire and Rescue Service said the fire at Wilmot Street was reported to the emergency services just after 3:00pm.

“Firefighters from Darwin Fire Station attended within six minutes and quickly brought the blaze under control, preventing damage occurring to nearby structures,” S/Station Officer Perry said. 

“Firefighters in breathing apparatus conducted a search of the premises, but no one was found to be within the building at the time.

“The structure, a granny flat and shed, has been structurally compromised by the fire and will almost certainly need to be demolished.”

Police attended and arrested the 19-year-old male at the scene.

Investigations are continuing.
