Casuarina Crackdown yields good results

Police

In the lead up to Christmas Casuarina Police, with assistance of other policing areas in the Darwin region, targeted social disorder, loitering, property destruction and liquor consumption in the Casuarina Shopping Square precinct.

Superintendent Bruce Porter said that the operation, as in previous years, is designed to provide a highly visible policing presence due to the annual increased influx of people to the area with the commencement of the school holidays and festive season.

"In its four weeks, police have arrested 25 people, summons a further 21, taken 186 people into protective custody, destroyed 373 litres of alcohol and issued 108 Liquor Infringement Notices.

“Officers attached to Casuarina Social Order, Shop Front, Metropolitan Patrol Group and Mounted Police Unit have conducted highly visible patrols in and around the precinct.

“We will continue to crack down on anti-social behaviour and maintain a zero tolerance approach towards any type of offending during the festive season.

“All year round Casuarina has a dedicated Police public order unit and Police BEAT for day and evening shifts specifically to target the Casuarina Square precinct.

“The Casuarina precinct is a popular area and Police are dedicated to reducing incidents to ensure everyone can enjoy the facility in a safe environment,” he said.
