Detectives from the Serious Crime Squad have charged a 17-year-old male following a robbery at Northlakes on Sunday.

Detective Sergeant Karl Day said a 74-year-old woman was walking towards the entrance of Northlakes supermarket at around 10:20am when she was approached by the alleged offender on a bicycle.

“The 17-year-old allegedly grabbed the woman’s handbag causing her to fall to the ground. The offender fled the scene with the victim’s handbag.

“Police arrested the youth today and charged him with aggravated robbery.”

He has been remanded in custody to appear in Darwin Youth Justice Court on 7 January 2014.
