Flooding Incidents Keeping PFES Personnel Busy

Police

Police, Fire and Emergency Service Personnel are responding to numerous incidents in the Rural Area as floodwaters close several roads and threaten houses.

Incident Controller, Superintendent Bruce Porter, said vehicles have been caught by rising creeks and rivers.

“Police have responded to an incident where a driver was forced to abandon his Isuzu truck in a creek on Cox Peninsula Road as he attempted to cross.

“An adult and a child were trapped in the truck for a short time before being winched free.

Superintendent Porter said floodwaters were continuing to rise and motorists and residents should take extreme care.

“Currently Cox Peninsula Road, Jenkins Road, Finn Road, Elizabeth Valley Road, Alverly Road and Krichauff Road in Humpty Doo have water over the road to various depths and have been closed.

“We are currently receiving reports of houses being inundated in these areas and advise residents to be aware of floodwaters and take appropriate precautions.

“Do not attempt to cross flooded waterways unless you are sure of the depth and speed of the water.

“More rain in the area is possible and water is likely to rise quickly resulting in more road closures.”

Superintendent Porter said the water is likely to recede just as quickly and motorists should be patient and not attempt to cross waterways unless they are absolute sure it is safe.
