Police

Northern Territory Police welcome 22 new Police Constables to the ranks today.

After 30 weeks of training the 17 men and 5 women have proven themselves capable of undertaking the roles and responsibilities of a Police Constable.

Commander Jeanette Kerr from the Police, Fire and Emergency Services Training College said the recruits hailed from right across the country and were looking forward to helping keep people safe throughout the Northern Territory.

“Officers from Squad 122 will be posted to Darwin, Katherine, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs.  The recruits are also being posted to remote locations such as Borroloola, Peppimenarti and Numbulwar.

“Throughout their training the recruits have participated in a number of operational shifts including the Christmas and New Year traffic campaigns.

“The recruits were also on the frontline of Policing during the Darwin Cup when they provided assistance after a tragic race fall.”

Commander Kerr said the recruits completed core competencies such as legislation, domestic violence and offences against the person; weapons and firearms offences; respect, equity and diversity; dishonesty and property offences; persons in care and custody; customer service; wellbeing and self-care; mental health and suicide prevention; driver training; operational safety and tactics training; ethical conduct; and road policing, all contribute to the completion of the Diploma of Public Safety (Policing), which they will be awarded today.
