Rock Throwing Incident - Public Assistance Sought - Alice Springs

Police are seeking public assistance following a rock throwing incident in Alice Springs early this morning, injuring a taxi driver.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Leith Phillips said the 32-year-old taxi driver had passengers inside the vehicle and was travelling north on the Stuart Highway at around 2:20am.

“As the driver approached the intersection of Herbert Heritage Drive and the Stuart Highway a rock was thrown at the vehicle, shattering the driver side window.

“The rock struck the driver and he received facial injuries. He was taken to Alice Springs Hospital and remains in a stable condition.”

“The incident was extremely dangerous and could have had tragic consequences.”

Police urge anyone who may have been in the area at the time and witnessed this incident or anyone who may have any information to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Note: Police would like to speak to two passengers inside the taxi involved in a rock throwing incident early this morning. We urge these people or anyone who may recognise them to contact Police on 131 444.
