Police are investigating a sexual assault which occurred in Nightcliff early this morning.

Detective Sergeant Glenn Leafe from the Sex Crimes Unit said the incident occurred at around 5:30 am today, at the site of the old supermarket on Progress Drive.

“It is alleged an unknown male approached the woman near Progress Drive and sexually assaulted her,” Detective Sergeant Leafe said.

“The offender is described to be of Aboriginal appearance, medium build and aged in his early 20s.

“Police urge any witnesses or anyone who may have seen a man matching this description in the area of Progress drive between 4:00am and 6:00am, to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
