Police

Drug and Organised Crime Squad Detectives, with the assistance of Pirlangimpi and Wurrumiyanga Police Officers, have arrested a 69-year-old male alleged to be involved in the sale of cannabis on the Tiwi Islands.

The man has been charged with possess and supply cannabis in an indigenous community.

Officer in Charge of the Drug and Organised Crime Squad, Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Board, said Police executed a search warrant yesterday at a residence on Melville Island resulting in the seizure of cannabis and cash.

“This is another great example of Police working together with the community to target those involved in drug distribution within remote indigenous communities.

“Police will continue to target those involved and I cannot emphasize enough that we continue to seek community support to work with us to identify and arrest drug dealers.

“If you have any information relating to illicit drugs call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Any information provided will be treated in the strictest of confidence.” Detective Senior Sergeant Board said.

The man has been bailed to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court in May.
