Domestic Violence Assault Arrest – Darwin City

Police

A 48-year-old Darwin man is to appear in court today, following his arrest in relation to an assault in the Smith Street Mall.

At about 11:00pm last night a couple were observed arguing at the location by CCTV Operators. The argument quickly escalated and the woman was assaulted.

After a quick response from Darwin Police, the male was arrested without incident. Strike Force Viridian Detectives have charged the man with aggravated assault and breaching an Alcohol Protection Order (APO).

He was issued with a Police Domestic Violence Order and a further APO and was remanded to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court.

Detective Senior Sergeant Neil Hayes of Strike Force Viridian said domestic violence will not be tolerated and Police will remain focussed on targeting this type of offending.

“Last night’s arrest was a great collaborative effort between the CCTV Operators and attending Police, with the Police being able to intervene and assist the victim.”
