A 21-year-old woman has been charged with drug offences following a traffic apprehension near Ngukurr early this morning.

Superintendent Sachin Sharma of the Arnhem and Western Division said Police apprehended a Holden Commodore at around 4:50am on the Roper Bar crossing.

“Police conducted a search of the vehicle and located 121grams of cannabis concealed inside the air cleaner of the vehicle.

“Police estimate that if the cannabis was sold in a remote community it could have fetched around $10,000.

The woman was charged with possess cannabis – trafficable quantity and will appear in the Katherine Magistrates Court on 10 July.

“Police do not tolerate the supply of illicit drugs into remote communities and will continue to target the individuals who profit from this kind of offending,” Superintendent Sharma said.
