Three men have been arrested and charged following a large kava seizure in Ramingining yesterday.
Remote Sergeant Ben Schultz said Police located a Mitsubishi utility at around 7am as it travelled east along the Maningrida Access Road.
“Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and located 27kg of kava divided into 694 individual deal bags. Police also located 188g of cannabis secreted inside a number of small containers,” Remote Sergeant Schultz said.
Two men aged 31 and 42 were charged with possess and supply a commercial quantity of kava. The third man, a 38-year-old, was charged with possess a trafficable quantity of cannabis.
The three men were bailed to appear in the Maningrida Court on 06 August.
If sold in a remote community the kava and cannabis could have sold for $27,000 and $13,000 respectively.
“We will continue to work hard to keep harmful substances out of our community and money out of the pockets of drug dealers.”
