Police are currently at the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash which occurred on Bicentennial Road in Katherine this afternoon.

Territory Duty Superintendent Bob Harrison said Police received a report that a vehicle had struck a pedestrian as they crossed Bicentennial Road, near the Victoria Highway, at around 5:35pm.

“As a result of the crash a child has passed away at the scene and two women have been injured.

“Emergency service personnel are currently in attendance.”

Police urge road users to avoid the area if possible as Bicentennial Road is blocked at both the Stuart Highway and Victoria Highway.

A file will be prepared for the Coroner.

No further information is available at this time.

The Northern Territory road toll now stands at 22 compared with 16 for the same period last year.
