Drugs Seized - Northern Territory

Police have seized a large quantity of drugs in two separate incidents in the Northern Territory yesterday.

Detective Sergeant Matt Akers from Drug and Organised Crime said Police received a report from staff at a Darwin hotel that a guest had a suspicious smell coming from her luggage.

“Darwin General Duties Officers attended and on inspection of the luggage found 3.6 kilograms of Cannabis wrapped in plastic bags.

“Police also located around $7,000 in cash, digital scales, a cryovac machine and numerous unused clip seal bags

A 29-year-old woman was arrested and charged with:

  • Possess Cannabis – commercial quantity
  • Supply Cannabis – commercial quantity

She will be appearing in Darwin Magistrates Court later today.

In a separate incident a 53-year-old man was arrested and charged following a search warrant at an Outstation 80kms North of Alice Springs.

Sergeant Dave Hamlyn from the Southern Substance Abuse Desk said during the search members located a hydroponics room containing twenty-five cannabis plants.

“Police also located and seized a further 278 grams of cannabis, five grams of cannabis seeds and $5,000 in cash.

“This arrest has been the result of a joint investigation between Detectives in Tennant Creek and the Southern Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk. 

“We will continue to target those people who choose to profit by selling illegal drugs to community members.”

The man was charged with:

  • Cultivate commercial Quantity Cannabis
  • Possess Trafficable Quantity Cannabis
  • Supply Dangerous Drugs
  • Possess Schedule 2 Drug

The offender was remanded in custody and will be appearing in Alice Springs Magistrates Court today.
