Sexual Assault - Nightcliff

Police

Northern Territory Police are calling for witnesses to an alleged sexual assault that occurred in the vicinity of Dick Ward Drive and Progress Drive in Nightcliff in the early hours of this morning.

Acting Senior Sergeant Meghan Funnell said Police were called at about 2.10am and found a highly distressed female at the scene.

“The victim was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment.

“The alleged offender has been described as an Aboriginal male, aged in his early twenties, approximately 165 to170 cm tall, of slim build with short, dark curly hair and wearing dirty white or dark shorts with no shirt and no shoes.

“The alleged offender may have had a dark coloured t-shirt with him and may have been wearing this when he departed the scene in the direction of the service station at the corner of Dick Ward Drive and Progress Drive, Nightcliff.

“Our investigations so far have suggested the male may have been in the area for the last few days.

“The alleged offender matches the description of a male who inappropriately assaulted a woman near Oleander Street, Nightcliff, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

“Police ask anyone who may have sighted a person fitting this description in the area around Dick Ward Drive, Craig Crescent, Oleander Street and Progress Drive, or who may have heard or seen a disturbance between 1.30am and 2.10am this morning to please contact the Police Assistance Line on 131 444.”
