Cannabis Seizure - Tennant Creek

Police

Police have arrested and charged two South Australian men with drug offences following two traffic apprehensions in Tennant Creek yesterday.

Detective Sergeant Andy Bedwell from Tennant Creek Investigation Unit said at around 6.30pm Police apprehended a maroon Land Cruiser traveling North on the Stuart Highway.

“Police conducted a search of the vehicle and located 2.63kg of cannabis concealed in garbage bags.

“A 47-year-old male was arrested and conveyed to Tennant Creek Police Station.

“Police apprehended a second vehicle a short time late on Paterson Street, and arrested a 25-year-old male in relation to the seized cannabis.”

It is alleged the drugs were destined for remote communities, to be sold for considerable profits.

“It is disappointing that some individuals continue to seek personal gain from the distress caused by these substances.

“Police do not tolerate the supply of illicit drugs into remote communities and will continue to target the individuals who profit from this kind of offending.”

The two offenders have been remanded in custody charged with:

  • Possess Cannabis – Commercial Quantity
  • Supply Cannabis

They will appear in Tennant Creek Magistrates Court on Monday, 11 August.
