Crime Stopper representatives from across Australia are arriving in Darwin this week to take part in the annual Crime Stoppers Conference, hosted by Crime Stoppers NT and the Northern Territory Police.

This is the first time the conference has been held in Darwin and Crime Stoppers NT Chairperson, Xana Kamitsis said the event presented a fantastic opportunity to improve Crime Stoppers through exploring emerging issues and best practice.

“The theme of the conference ‘Challenge of Change’ perfectly articulates our position on a national scale with a focus on Cyber Crime and the Emergence of a Digital World, Strengthening Partnerships, The Changing Face of Crime Stoppers and Engaging Cultures.

 “We are the proud hosts of this years’ conference and look forward to a valuable, stimulating and memorable training program,” Ms Kamitsis said.

A high quality program has been developed and sessions include QLD Police’s Assistant Commisisoner, Michael Condon presenting on the high profile Daniel Morcombe case, Team Member from the AFP, Mimi Bartsch discussing Cyber Crime and Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Ballantyne from the QLD Police Service conveying findings around child exploitation.

 Northern Territory Police Commissioner, John McRoberts said the Northern Territory Police are pleased to partner with Crime Stoppers NT to host this year’s conference.

“Our strong, ongoing partnership with Crime Stoppers has seen the Territory community engage with Police and provide invaluable information that helps ussolve crimes.

“This conference is a real opportunity for delegates to participate in the future policy developments that make a practical contribution to Police Forces across Australia,” Commissioner McRoberts said.

The conference is being held at the Hilton, Darwin from the 13 – 15 August.
