Cannabis Seized - Katherine

Police

Police have charged a 33-year-old man with drug and firearm offences following a search warrant in Katherine yesterday.

Detective Sergeant Ian Kennon from the Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk said Police executed a search warrant at the Katherine property and located a quantity of cannabis plants set up with an automatic watering system.

“Police seized 20 cannabis plants, along with approximately 366 grams of loose cannabis material and 72 grams of cannabis seed.

“Police also seized an unregistered bolt action rifle, a large quantity of unsecured ammunition and fireworks.”

The offender was arrested and conveyed to Katherine Police station charged with:

  • Cultivate cannabis – commercial
  • Possess cannabis – trafficable
  • Possess cannabis seeds – trafficable
  • Possess ammunition without a licence
  • Fail to meet storage requirements – ammunition
  • Possess firearm without licence
  • Fail to meet storage requirements – firearm
  • Possess unregistered firearm
  • Possess fireworks outside approved period

He was bailed to appear in Katherine Magistrates Court in September.

“Police will continue targeting illicit operations such as this to remove dangerous drugs from the community in order to keep people safe, Detective Sergeant Kennon said.”
