A 22-year-old man has been charged following the assault of a bus driver in Parap overnight.

Senior Sergeant Bruce Payne said the man is alleged to have punched a 43-year-old male bus driver as the vehicle stopped near the Parap Road intersection at around 7:50pm.

“The alleged offender ran from the area and was apprehended by Transit Security Officers in Somerville Gardens. It is alleged the man assaulted one of the Officers before Police arrived and arrested him a short time later.

“He was taken into custody and has been charged with assault and a number of other offences and will appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court at a later date.”
