Four Youths Charged for Crime Spree - Katherine

Police

Four male youths are to appear in the Katherine Court tomorrow following a crime spree in the Katherine area last week.

Acting Superintendent David Richardson from the Katherine Division said it is alleged the four youths aged 13, two aged 14 and a 15-year-old, were involved in a number of unlawful entries and property offences between Tuesday 9 and Wednesday 10 September.

“Police allege the youths unlawfully entered a preschool and stole a number of items on Tuesday,” Acting Superintendent Richardson said.

“It is alleged they then unlawfully entered a home on Sandalwood Crescent and stole a credit card, keys and a Mitsubishi sedan as the resident slept. The vehicle was driven to a nearby petrol station where they made an unsuccessful attempt to use the stolen credit card, before the car was driven behind the high school and set alight.

“Police quickly attended the scene and extinguished the blaze however before the vehicle could be removed from the scene, unknown persons attended the location and set the vehicle alight, completely destroying the sedan.”

It is alleged the youths then attended a primary school, unlawfully entered a sports shed and stole and damaged property.

Police alleged the youths stole a number of bicycles from a resort, which were later recovered by responding Officers.

The youths are alleged to have then stolen a small tipper truck, which was driven to a number of locations throughout the town and used to ram raid a building at a sporting facility on the Stuart Highway. A quantity of food and drinks were stolen from the location.

The four youths were arrested and charged with a number of offences including stealing, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and property damage and bailed to appear in court tomorrow.
