A 32-year-old man has been charged with assault and a number of other offences following an incident on a bus in Karama yesterday.

Superintendent Jody Nobbs of the Darwin Metropolitan Command said it is alleged the man punched a 67-year-old bus driver several times as the bus stopped on Applegum Drive.

“A number of passengers assisted the driver and restrained the man until Police arrived a short time later,” Superintendent Nobbs said.

“The driver was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital to receive treatment and has since been discharged.”

He was remanded in custody to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court this afternoon.
