CCTV Operators Assist with Two Arrests – Alice Springs

Police

Due to the quick work of CCTV Operators and Alice Springs Police, two males were arrested overnight for two separate assaults.

Superintendent Travis Wurst of the Alice Springs Division said at around 4:20pm yesterday, a 17-year-old female was indecently assaulted as she walked along Todd Street.

“CCTV Operators provided a detailed description of the offender, leading Police to his location and the subsequent arrest of the 14-year-old male,” Superintendent Wurst said.

At around 8:15pm Police were alerted to the aggravated assault of a 23-year-old woman on Bath Street.

Operators maintained visuals on the incident location and within a short time witnessed the alleged offender return to the scene and approach his vehicle.

“Police attended and arrested the 24-year-old alleged offender before he could flee the area. Further investigations revealed the man was wanted by Police for an assault against the same woman the previous night.

“CCTV Operators are an integral part of what we do as Police, however rarely get the recognition they deserve.”
