Police are seeking public assistance in relation to a sexual assault near Vesteys Beach.

Detective Senior Sergeant Meghan Funnell said a 45-year-old woman was approached by an unknown man near the public toilets at Vesteys Beach around 1am on Saturday.

"The man has taken the woman to an area at a nearby playground and assaulted her.

"The incident was reported to Police at 7:30pm yesterday and Detectives from the Sex Crimes Unit are investigating.

"The offender is described as Caucasian appearance, solid build and curly hair.

"Police urge anyone who may have witnessed a male fitting this description in the vicinity of Vesteys Beach early yesterday morning to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000."
