A 45-year-old man is to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court today following a sexual assault at a Darwin beach on Saturday.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Janelle Tonkin from the Sex Crimes Division said, it is alleged the 45-year-old man sexually assaulted a 52-year-old woman as she slept at Lameroo Beach on Saturday afternoon.

“A witness attended the Darwin Police Station and reported the incident and within a short time Police attended and arrested the alleged offender,” Detective A/Senior Sergeant Tonkin said.

“He was charged with sexual intercourse without consent (x2) and aggravated assault and remanded in custody to appear in court today.

“Police wish to again speak with the witness who reported the incident to Police and anyone else who may have witnessed the incident by calling the Police Assistance Line on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
