'Snapchat' Arrests - Darwin

Police

Police have arrested three people in relation to the alleged supply of ‘snapchat’ pills in Darwin.

Detective Superintendent Tony Fuller said that in June this year Police and Health Authorities were advised of a number of people presenting at Hospital with adverse reactions to a drug referred to as ‘snapchat’.

“Testing identified that the actual chemical compound in this drug is 251NBOMe, a synthetic substance that is classed as a schedule 2 drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

“Members of the Drug and Organised Crime Squad commenced an investigation into the suppliers of this drug resulting in the apprehension of a vehicle in Palmerston on Saturday night.

“Two males, aged 21 and 20, were arrested following the alleged discovery of a trafficable quantity of ecstasy in the vehicle.

“A search warrant was then executed at a residence in Moulden and a 26-year-old male was arrested.

“The search allegedly located trafficable quantities of ecstasy, steroids and $950 cash.

“A second warrant was executed at another residence in Moulden where $9,900 cash, a trafficable quantity of ‘snapchat’ pills, cannabis and a less than trafficable amount of methamphetamine was allegedly uncovered.”

The 26-year-old male was charged with supply (x6), possess (x2), trafficable quantity of a dangerous drug and possess proceeds of crime (cash).

He was remanded to appear in the Darwin Magistrates Court today.

The 21-year-old was charged with supply (x5) and possess (x2) dangerous drugs.

The 20-year-old was charged with supply (x2) and possess a dangerous drug.

Both received bail to appear in court at a later date.

Detective Superintendent Fuller said it is alarming to see that despite the media alerts and the obvious Police attention these males continued to ply their trade with little, if any, regard to the safety of the community.

“It is satisfying to arrest these people and put them before the courts but whether they learn anything from the experience remains to be seen.”
