Detectives from Strike Force Trident have charged two men, aged 31, following an alleged robbery in The Gardens on Sunday

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Stringer said Police allege the two men assaulted a 46-year-old man near Garden Hills Road at around 1:30pm and stole his wallet, keys, cigarettes and backpack.

“Police located the two men a short time later and recovered some of the stolen property.

“Police allege one of the men assaulted a Police Officer while he was being arrested.

“They were both arrested and charged with aggravated robbery, resist Police and escape lawful custody.  One of the men was also charged with assault Police.”

They were both remanded in custody. One man will appear in Darwin Magistrates Court today, the other man will appear in court on 7 November.

“Police are appealing to a man in a small silver car who witnessed the Police Officer being assaulted. It is believed he recorded the incident on his mobile phone and may be able to assist Police with their enquiries,” Detective Senior Sergeant Stringer said.
