Operation Attrex Resolution - Cannabis and Cash Seized – Katherine

Officers from the Drug and Organised Crime Division and the Northern SAID team, have arrested a male and two females for alleged drug offences following a joint month long operation into the distribution of cannabis in the Territory.

Detective Superintendent Tony Fuller from the Drug and Organised Crime Division said at around 2.35 pm on Tuesday, Detectives with assistance from Tennant Creek Police intercepted a white four-wheel-drive travelling through Tennant Creek.

“Upon search of that vehicle Police located 4.8 kilograms of cannabis concealed in three PVC pipes wrapped in carpet.

“A small quantity of methamphetamine was also located during the search.

“Police arrested a 70-year-old male Canadian national and a 52-year-old female from New Zealand.

They will appear in Tennant Creek Magistrates Court today charged with:

  • Possess cannabis – commercial (x3)
  • Supply cannabis – commercial
  • Supply cannabis (x2)
  • Possess methamphetamine
  • Possess tainted property
  • Give false name to police
  • Forgery

“Earlier in the week, Police seized 700 grams of cannabis concealed in similar PVC pipes, as well as $65,000 cash hidden in bushland near Katherine.

“A 58-year-old female New Zealand national was arrested. She will appear in Katherine Magistrates Court today charged with possession of a commercial quantity of cannabis, supply cannabis and possess tainted property.

“Police will allege that all three were involved in a criminal syndicate predominately involved in the supply of cannabis to Katherine and remote indigenous communities.

“It is great to not only seize the cannabis but also some of the profits Police allege were being made by this syndicate”, said Detective Superintendent Tony Fuller.
