Call for witnesses hit and run fatal - Tennant Creek

Police

Major Crime Detectives continue to seek witnesses in relation to the fatal hit and run of a 38-year-old man, who was struck on the Stuart Highway around 15km north of Three Ways Roadhouse last month.

Detective Superintendent Brent Warren from the Southern Investigations Division said the Police working as part of Operation Cube have been examining CCTV footage from Tennant Creek in an attempt to identify witnesses.

“Using CCTV footage captured in Tennant Creek at the BP Petrol Station on the Stuart Highway and Bridgestone Service Centre on Patterson Street, Police have identified a number of vehicles who may have been in the vicinity of the crash scene around the time of the incident.

“We believe these drivers may have travelled through scene between 10:30pm Friday 28 and 2am Saturday 29 November and may be able to assist with the investigation.

“We urge these people, or anyone who may recognise the vehicles in the attached CCTV images, to contact Police.

“Police and Northern Territory Emergency Service Volunteers conducted a line search of the crash site this this morning as this multi-agency and multi-jurisdictional investigation continues.

“At this stage in the investigation it is clear that the 38-year-old victim may well have survived his injuries if the driver of the offending vehicle stopped and rendered assistance.

“Someone knows something about this fatal crash. I am hopeful that the person responsible realises that the right thing to do is to come forward and speak to Police.

“We are imploring anyone with any information about the incident to contact Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. Calls to Crime Stoppers can be made anonymously.”
