Assault Police – Charges – Alice Springs

Police

Police have charged two males and two females following an altercation in Alice Springs yesterday.

Superintendent Travis Wurst from the Alice Springs Division said Members were called to Hidden Valley Camp around 6:00pm following reports of an armed male.

“On arrival Police were confronted by a large group of people arguing, and a male armed with a knife and axe.

“Whilst trying to arrest the alleged armed offender, two females turned on the arresting officer, one attempted to strike her with her fist, the other attempted to strike her with a glass bottle.

“Both females were arrested, and more officers were called to disperse the crowd”.

A 23-year-old male was arrested and charged with attempted assault of a Police officer, hinder Police and armed with a controlled weapon.

A 28-year-old male was arrested and charged with being armed with an offensive weapon. Both men were bailed to appear in Alice Springs Magistrates Court on 16 March.

The two females aged 33 and 50-years-old were charged with hinder Police and attempted assault of a Police Officer.

“We will not tolerate any behaviour like this, especially towards our officers when we are simply trying to maintain the safety of those that live in town camps.  The people involved were visitors who clearly had no respect for the residents of that Town Camp nor the police”, said Superintendent Wurst.

“It is clear that alcohol played a factor in this altercation, and it is clear that these individuals have no respect for the Alcohol Protection Law in place at this location.

“We will continue to target people who traffic alcohol into Town Camps and disrupt the peace and harmony expected by the permanent residents of those locations.”
