Strike Force Romulus members have made three arrests during an operation targeting domestic violence offenders in Alice Springs.

Detective Senior Sergeant Peter Dash said the two-day operation, which was conducted last week, also focused on those people who have a Domestic Violence Order, an Alcohol Protection Order or who are on bail.

“These people have had these orders placed upon them to offer protection not only to their family members but also to themselves. Police take these orders seriously and take measures to ensure compliance, taking a zero-tolerance approach. If you choose not to comply with your order we will arrest you and place you before the courts.

“Police made three arrests during the operation. The first arrest was a 21-year-old male who allegedly assaulted his 20-year-old partner. He was charged with unlawfully cause serious harm, breach of a Domestic Violence Order and being armed with an offensive weapon.

“Police arrested a 47-year-old man on Friday in relation to the alleged assault of his 49-year-old partner and in a separate incident a 41-year-old man was arrested for breaching a Domestic Violence Order.

“Police also conducted a traffic apprehension where they located and seized a small quantity of cannabis. A 22-year-old man was issued a Drug Infringement Notice.

“Domestic violence will not be tolerated. We continue to encourage members of the public to take a stand against this unacceptable behaviour and report all acts of domestic violence to the Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”

Operation Romulus will continue to target the perpetrators of domestic violence in the region.
